MBBS Abroad: Common Questions Indian Students Ask

1. Is studying MBBS abroad really more affordable than in India?
         Yes. Many countries offer more affordable education compared to private Indian medical colleges.

2. What is the eligibility criteria for admission?
         General category students need at least 50% in PCB in 12th standard. OBC/SC/ST students need a minimum of 40% in PCB.

3. What is the age criteria?
         The student must be at least 17 years old by December 31 of the year of admission.

4. Is qualifying NEET compulsory?
         Yes. According to NMC guidelines, you must qualify for NEET if you want to practice medicine in India.

5. What is the course duration?
         The duration varies by college/university. According to NMC, the course must be at least 54 months (4.5 years) followed by a 12-month internship.

6. What is the medium of instruction?
         Most countries offer English-medium instruction. As per NMC, you should choose a college that provides education in English.

7. Can I practice medicine in India after my graduation?
         Yes. As per NMC rules, you must clear the FMGE to practice medicine in India.

8. What is FMGE?
         FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduates Examination) is a licensure exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) twice a year (June and December). Foreign medical graduates must pass this exam to practice in India.

9. Can I get a job in government hospitals in India?
         Yes. After clearing the FMGE, you must complete your internship and register with the NMC. You can then apply for jobs in government hospitals.

10. How many times can I appear for FMGE?
         There is no limit.

11. Can I pursue PG in India?
         Yes. After registration, you need to appear for NEET-PG to pursue postgraduate studies.

12. Do all medical colleges have hostels?
         Most colleges have hostels. Some countries like the Philippines have a large number of Indian students and even provide Indian food for them.
