What is FMGE?
The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a licensure exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). It is conducted twice a year, one in June and another one in December. FMGE is conducted for candidates who are citizens of India/overseas citizens of India who graduated MBBS abroad, and it is for those who want to practice medicine in India by getting a permanent registration. Eligibility Criteria for FMGE
- Candidates must be a citizen of India/overseas citizen of India.
- Candidates must have a primary medical qualification that is recognized for practicing medicine in the country where it was awarded. (must be verified by the Indian Embassy)
- Candidates must provide proof of passing the primary medical qualification by the cut-off date.

FMGE Application Procedure
The procedure to apply for FMGE is:
1. Visit natboard.edu.in, which is the official website of the NBEMS.
2. Create an account and register. If you have already registered, you can log in to the website with your user ID and password.
3. Click on the “Go to Application” link to proceed with the application process.
4. Fill out the details in the application form and upload the necessary documents.
5. Upload your scanned photograph and signature.
6. Pay an application fee of Rs. 6195/-. (As of May 2025, the application fee is ₹6,195, which includes an examination fee of ₹5,250 and 18% GST amounting to ₹945.)
7. Finally, submit your application.
Required documents to apply for FMGE
- Primary Medical Qualification Degree certificate
- Provisional Pass Certificate duly attested by the embassy of India in the country from where the qualification has been obtained
- Proof of Citizenship
1. Indian Citizen NRI: Valid Passport Issued by GOI (front and last page)
2. Overseas Citizen of India: OCI Card + Valid Passport of Country of Citizenship (Front and Last Page)
